STUDENTS WHO WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN FOREIGN EXCHANGE PROGRAMS

Spearfish High School students applying for foreign exchange programs must:
1 . Be a Spearfish High School student, if expecting school authorization.
2. Fulfill all Spearfish High School graduation requirements for required courses, if expecting a Spearfish graduation diploma.

a. These requirements must be able to be made up before or after the student's retum.

3. Be aware of the college entrance requirements pertaining to foreign language, math, science, etc., if planning to attend a South Dakota college.

4. Complete the full first semester requirement, if planning to leave the second semester, or forfeit the credit.

5. Be in good academic standing with previous course work and graduation requirements as defined by athletic eligibility guidelines.

For students applying for involvement in a foreign exchange student program, the student and the parents must meet with the high school counselor to set up a contract for normal graduation requirements before entering the program. At this time, elective course work and possible credit taken as an exchange student will be discussed as well as the Spearfish High School course requirements, electives and attendance policy.
