SCHOOL DAY DISMISSAL FOR EMERGENCIES OR INCLEMENT WEATHER

SCHOOL DAY DISMISSAL FOR EMERGENCIES OR INCLEMENT WEATHER

As a general policy, regular school operation is expected to occur. However, if reasonable assurance of a life-threatening situation should occur, the superintendent of schools or a designee is directed to dismiss school. The time school is dismissed may be made up at a later date as directed by state statutes and approved by the board. The "Crisis Management Plan" will be used as a guideline for emergency situations.

Inclement Weather - As a rule, school will not be dismissed for inclement weather. It is recognized that regular attendance in a safe, supervised environment with instructional activities is of paramount importance to the citizens of our district. A known, stable plan which can be depended upon will provide a feeling of confidence and dependability for parents and students. It is recognized that weather conditions may vary greatly in our district and that bus or personal transportation may be difficult, if not impossible. However, school will normally be held unless extreme conditions occur restricting service, utilities, or all forms of transportation.

When school is dismissed for emergencies or inclement weather, area radio and television stations will be notified of the change in schedule, and the SchoolReach parent/staff communications system will be activated in an effort to make sure all students, families and staff members are kept informed.
