Here are some "Best Practice", research-based instructional strategies used in our program:

  • Structure activities to guarantee success.

  • Provide alternative routes (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, tactile).

  • Provide step by step directions which include opportunity for guided practice.

  • Preferential seating.

  • Teach by demonstration.

  • Re-teach daily.

  • Use manipulatives and tactile objects.

  • Test orally.

  • Visual scheduling.

  • Leveled reading materials

  • Individualized instruction and small group instruction

  • Reduce directions to a few key words.

Thematic units:

Friday is "Centers" day. Children enjoy thematic units about various subjects, eg. Three Little Pigs, Friendship, Seasons.
